Healthy Weight Calculator
The healthy weight range for your height from the BMI 18.5 to 24.9 band, in kg or pounds, and whether your current weight sits below, inside or above it.

Assumptions and formula
For adults aged 20 to 80, the reference endpoints are BMI 18.5 and 24.9 multiplied by height in metres squared. US measurements use weight in pounds and height in inches with the factor 703.
Endpoints are rounded to one decimal before comparing your entered weight. The distance is arithmetic to the displayed range, not a recommendation to gain or lose weight. CDC defines healthy adult BMI as 18.5 to less than 25; this calculator uses the specification’s 24.9 endpoint. Pregnancy, children and athlete-specific interpretation are excluded.
Worked example
At 175 cm the displayed range is 56.7 to 76.3 kg. An entered weight of 95 kg is 18.7 kg above that range.
Healthy weight range by height
The weight range that gives an adult a body mass index (BMI) from 18.5 to 24.9, the range the World Health Organization classes as a healthy weight. These are the limits the calculator uses.

|---|---|---|
| 4′10″ (147 cm) | 89–119 lb | 40.2–54.0 kg |
| 5′0″ (152 cm) | 95–128 lb | 43.0–57.8 kg |
| 5′2″ (157 cm) | 101–136 lb | 45.9–61.8 kg |
| 5′4″ (163 cm) | 108–145 lb | 48.9–65.8 kg |
| 5′6″ (168 cm) | 115–154 lb | 52.0–70.0 kg |
| 5′8″ (173 cm) | 122–164 lb | 55.2–74.3 kg |
| 5′10″ (178 cm) | 129–174 lb | 58.5–78.7 kg |
| 6′0″ (183 cm) | 136–184 lb | 61.9–83.3 kg |
| 6′2″ (188 cm) | 144–194 lb | 65.4–88.0 kg |
| 6′4″ (193 cm) | 152–205 lb | 68.9–92.8 kg |
BMI is a screening measure, not a diagnosis. It does not distinguish muscle from fat, so very muscular people can read as overweight, and it can understate risk in people who carry weight around the waist. Some health bodies use lower cut-offs for adults of South Asian, Chinese and other Asian backgrounds, because health risks rise at a lower BMI. The ranges do not apply to children, teenagers or during pregnancy.
A weight anywhere inside the range is consistent with good health; there is no single ideal number. If your weight is outside it, or changing quickly without a reason you know of, talk to a doctor rather than relying on a calculator.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Treating the top of the range as a target. Any weight inside the range is consistent with good health; aiming for a particular number inside it has no medical basis.
- Using it for children or teenagers. Under-18s are assessed with age- and sex-specific BMI centile charts, not adult ranges.
- Ignoring waist size. Weight carried around the middle raises health risks even at a normal BMI; a waist measurement adds information BMI cannot give.
Frequently asked questions
What is a healthy weight for my height?
The range that puts BMI between 18.5 and 24.9. For someone 170 cm tall that is 53.5 to 72 kg; for 5 ft 10 in (178 cm) it is about 58.5 to 79 kg, or 129 to 174 lb. The band is wide on purpose: it covers different builds and the fact that BMI does not see muscle or where fat sits. If you are outside it, the distance matters more than the label, and if you are a long way inside it with a high waist measurement, the range alone is not reassurance. This calculator shows the range and your position in it without rounding either. Read down a healthy weight chart and every row is the same BMI band applied to a different height; this weight range calculator gives you your row without the table.
Is this a target weight plan?
No. It shows the adult BMI 18.5 to 24.9 weight band for the entered height and the minimum arithmetic change needed to reach it. It is not a plan or diagnosis.
